Various Hindu organizations held a public demonstration in Chattogram city's New Market area to protest communal attacks and persecution of minorities sparked by rumors of religious desecration. The demonstration also called for an end to the vandalism of monasteries and temples, increased security, and punishment for the perpetrators.
On Saturday, November 7th, at 10:00 AM, organizations including the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, Bangladesh Geeta Shiksha Committee (BAGSHIK), Bangladesh Minority Watch, Jago Hindu Parishad, Sanatan Vidyarthi Sangsad, and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad gathered for a two-hour protest at the New Market intersection in Chattogram. Participants held up placards with slogans.
During a speech at the event, Adv. Rabindra Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Minority Watch, addressed the Prime Minister directly, stating, “Honorable Prime Minister, we, the Sanatani community, wish to live in this country with dignity and equal rights, participating in all of the government’s development activities. But a class of communal terrorists uses a trivial incident as an excuse to attack the homes, monasteries, temples, and businesses of the Sanatani community. Since independence, not a single one of these attacks has resulted in exemplary punishment. This is why the attackers feel emboldened to repeat these acts again and again.”
He added, “We humbly request that you identify all those who are or will be involved in these acts as criminals against humanity and ensure they receive exemplary punishment, so they do not dare to commit such offenses again. Furthermore, we demand that the government compensate the Sanatani community for the damages they have already suffered at the hands of these attackers.”
This demand was made jointly by all the Sanatani organizations, with special mention from Janmashtami and BAGSHIK, during the rally held this Saturday morning at the New Market intersection in Chattogram.
