According to Senior Reporter Abdur Razzak, an incident of idol vandalism has been reported at the Kali temple located near Nilsagar in Ward No. 4 of Katali Union, Jaldhaka, Nilphamari.
The temple's president, Suresh Chandra Roy (78), filed a case against the arrested individual, Parvez Islam, at the Jaldhaka Police Station on April 4, 2023. The case number is 08.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), at approximately 6:30 AM on April 4, 2023, Parvez illegally entered the Kali temple, vandalized the idol, and attempted to flee. Locals apprehended him and alerted the police. The police promptly arrived at the scene, conducted an inspection, and took the individual into custody.
The arrested individual was later sent to jail through a court order.
Parvez Islam (14) is the son of Md. Sabur Islam from Shimulbari Ashrayan Bazaar in the Upazila.
Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW), stated that he spoke with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station, Md. Firoz Kabir. The OC informed him that a case was filed against the offender under sections 295, 295A, and 297 of the Bangladesh Penal Code, and the individual was arrested and sent to jail.
The District Superintendent of Police informed BDMW that the juvenile offender has been placed in a juvenile cell.
The president of BDMW strongly condemned this reprehensible act and urged the government to take effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
