Hindu Family's Home Vandalized and Attacked in Chilmari

​It has been reported that a Hindu family's home in Raniganj Dafadar Para, Chilmari, Kurigram, was vandalized, and family members were beaten and robbed.

​According to Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, president of the Bangladesh Minority Watch (BMDW), based on the case details and the complaint, a group of assailants, driven by a previous animosity, attacked the home of Narayan Chandra Das (55) on Friday, September 8, 2023, at around 11:00 PM. The group was armed with sticks, iron rods, sharp knives, wooden bats, and other homemade weapons.

​They arrived in the front yard and started using abusive language. When Narayan's elderly mother, Bala Moni (80), told them to stop, the attackers entered the house and began beating her, causing bruises and injuries, and reportedly molested her. When Narayan tried to protect his mother, he was also severely beaten and suffered broken bones and bruises. His daughter, Santona Rani (20), was also hit with fists and kicks when she tried to intervene to save her father and grandmother. During the attack, the assailants vandalized the tin door and fences of the temple inside the house and stole gold ornaments and cash. The victims’ screams alerted locals, who came to their rescue, causing the attackers to flee the scene.

​Local residents then rescued the victims and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex.

​Narayan Chandra Das’s son, Sagar Chandra Das (21), filed a case on September 9, 2023, against six named individuals and 3-4 unnamed persons. The case number is 4/103. The accused are: 1. Md. Mominul Islam (25), 2. Md. Ibrahim Ali (24), 3. Md. Jaminul Islam (20), 4. Md. Abdul Latif (60), 5. Md. Jony Mia (27), and 6. Md. Aminul Islam (23), along with 3-4 other unknown individuals, all from Government Bokultala village in the Upazila.

​The BMDW president informed the District Superintendent of Police about the incident, and the SP assured him that the culprits would be arrested very soon. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station stated that the culprits would be punished after a fair investigation. The BMDW president has strongly condemned the incident and demanded the swift arrest of the culprits and their exemplary punishment through legal proceedings.
