Sagar Roy, a Kuwait expatriate from Madhufakir's Dangirchar village in Charbhadrasan, Faridpur, and his two children were reportedly severely beaten, sustaining bloody bone fractures, and had their gold jewelry stolen at approximately 7:30 PM on June 1, 2023.
In response to the incident, the victim's brother, Nitai Roy (35), filed a complaint with the Charbhadrasan Police Station on June 3, 2023, naming two individuals as defendants. The accused are brothers Kashem Beg (45) and Billal Beg (30), sons of Khalek Beg from Joydeb Sarkar's Dangi village in Char Hosseinpur.
According to Advocate Rabindra Ghosh, President of Bangladesh Minority Watch, the complaint and details of the incident reveal that the accused had demanded two lakh takas in extortion money from Sagar Roy, son of Monindra Roy. They had threatened to "teach him a lesson" if he refused to pay. Subsequently, on the day of the incident, as Sagar and his twin children, Satyajit Roy and Gayatri Roy, approached a tea stall near the new market in Joydeb Sarkar's Dangi, the accused, who were lying in wait, surrounded them with bamboo sticks and iron rods.
The accused told Sagar that if he wanted to live, he had to give them the two lakh takas immediately, threatening to kill his children if he refused. When Sagar refused to pay, they brutally attacked him with iron rods, leaving him with severe bleeding and broken bones. As he fell to the ground, the accused took the opportunity to snatch the gold chains from the necks of both Sagar and his son.
Sagar's screams attracted people nearby, causing the accused to flee. Locals rescued him and his children and took them to the Upazila Health Complex. Seeing his critical condition, the on-duty doctor referred him to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Upon being informed of this unfortunate incident by BDMW representative Shri Sumon Haldar, BDMW President Advocate Rabindra Ghosh contacted the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Faridpur District. The SP instructed Charbhadrasan Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Selim Reza, to register the case on June 3, 2023 (Case No. 1/42).
The BDMW President strongly condemned the incident and demanded that the criminals be brought to justice and receive exemplary punishment.
